Marine Conservation in the Western Indian Ocean States

Our Work Impacts Thousands of Lives Daily
The Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region encompasses countries along the eastern coast of Africa, including Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa, as well as island nations such as Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros, and Seychelles. The total population of this region is approximately 220 million people. Of these, over 60 million reside within 100 kilometers of the coastline. These coastal communities rely heavily on the marine environment for their livelihoods, food security, and economic activities.
