Dr. Mwanahija Shallis is the Senior Lecturer and Head of Section (MCRM), Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Shalli isĀ  a Researcher and a Consultant working with the Institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam since 2005.

She did her MSc in Natural Resources Management at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and her PhD in Coastal and Marine Resources Management at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

Dr. Shalli teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas related to coastal and marine resources management. She has supervised eleven (11) postgraduate (PhD and MSc) students (7 completed; 4 ongoing).

Dr. Shalli is working on diverse research areas related to coastal and marine resources management and socioeconomics. Her research interests include; Coastal and marine socioeconomics; Coastal livelihoods; Natural resource governance; Coastal and marine traditional/indigenous knowledge; and Community-based conservation.

Dr. Shalli is currently working on six (6) research projects. Furthermore, Dr. Shalli is an active member of Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) and Women in Marine Science (WiMS). She has also attended a number of national and international conferences/workshops, and short training courses relevant to her area of expertise.

She is a conservation and research advisor and Board Member of the Dar es Salaam Aquarium.
